Loft insulation

    Benefits

  • Our House saves £370 per year
  • One of the easiest and least costly measures to take
  • Relatively easy to install
  • Very likely to qualify for Green Deal finance

In an un-insulated home 25% of heat can be lost through the roof.

Installing loft insulation is one of the easiest and most cost effective measures that you can undertake.

Our smart home model, which was calculated using the SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) model, would see savings of £370 per year.

The ideal is to install 270mm of loft insulation and in most cases we would recommend installing a mineral wool quilt.

How does the insulation work?

Most loft insulation materials work by preventing the movement of heated air through the material. It is important that the material isn’t stressed through stretching it, or compressing it during the installation process.

But my house is different, what kind of savings will I make?

If you already have insulation between the joists to a depth of 100mm, adding an additional 170mm will result in savings in an average house of £45 per year. If the loft is not insulated at all, installing 270mm of mineral wool insulation could see savings of £170 a year.

We would expect to see the cost of the measure paid for by savings in between ten to twelve years.

We would expect this measure to qualify for Green Deal finance in most homes.
